4th Grade Birthday cards!

As Co-room mom for my son's class, I get the honor of making some birthday cards for the kids.  This month we have 5 birthdays, well actually 1 birthday and 4 half birthdays.  For those of you with children in grade school the half birthday makes sense. Anyway, here they are:

The birthday card for Erica.
This card was made with our older paper, "Paper Garden", Blush and Petal card stock.

The half birthday card for Caroline.
This card is made from the older paper pack "Evensong" with a "Miracl" chipboard element flower. This flower is embssed for ink resist purposes.  I love the colors in this paper pack.

The half birthday card for Lizzie.
Lizzie's card has a "Miracle Butterfly" that is setup for resisting embossing, colored with Creme Brulee, Juniper and Sorbet.  The flowers are from the December Constant campaign, Rock the Block stamp set.

The Half birthday card for Jada.
Jada's card is made from the "Life Delights" paper pack, again and oldie.

Half Birthday for Ryan!

These are all 3X6 cards.  They fit well in the standard envelope, and this size allowed me to use some of my scrap pieces of paper, thus all the oldies brought back to life!!

4th Grade Tree

It's that time of year again!  The St. Ann's Bazaar is this weekend, the 11th through the 13th.  I know crazy to do it on a holiday weekend.  Anyway!  Here is the Tree, sorry for the quality of the photo, cell phone shot!). Our theme is Coffee, Tea and Chocolate!

Not pictured with the tree is this nice resealable ceramic jar with shortbread, fruit filled, chocolate bottomed cookies.  It had a nice fruit assortment painted on the sides and top, but didn't really go with our color scheme, so I took the liberty of dressing it up a bit.

The lid features the Somona Paper along with 2 of the Heirloom Assortment rosettes. The image is stamped from the Sweet Moments (C1467) set and hosts a grey opaques from the Licorice assortment.

I draped the exterior with the same paper from the Sonoma set, wrapped it with a purple ribbon and added a smoke colored dangle jewel from the Heirloom Assortment for a touch of elegance.  I really Love this paper pack.  It works great with Wine country photos!

Bragging Rights!

OK!  So at convention, I'm sitting in my room looking through my catalog, and I see this really cool Halloween layout.  I think to myself, this kid looks familiar.  I look at it some more and I think, this kid looks like Ryan (my son).  Then it hits me, like a cast iron frying pan upside the head!  This is my son!  And then they had to peel me off the walls because I was so excited to see my son published in our current Idea Book.  I called home to tell my husband.  The next day, my Idea book shipment arrives, and so my husband opens the box and goes to page 49 and he gets excited.  So when Ryan gets home from his sleep over, Mike shows the page to Ryan!  Ryan says, "Wow! I'm famous!  Mike said the look on his face was priceless!

Here is the Layout on page 49.
How cool is that?  I submitted the photos and they used them in the artwork they published in the book.

I'm still so excited!!

Yep it was a MIRACLE I found enough time to make this card for the card swap.  Next week is the Close to My Heart Convention in Anaheim.  I can hardly wait to go.

The paper pack used here is Miracle!  It has a nice combination of Bamboo, Heavenly Blue, Sweet Leaf and Crystal Blue.  The "Friend" was stamped in Desert Sand. The stamp set is the February Stamp of the Month "Wings".

I hope they like it!

Convention Card Swap!

Hi Friends,

I challenged myself with these cards.  The designs are both from Mojo Monday.  The flower was inspired by Connie Macfarlane.  She has a "How to" demo on her blog, and you can watch it by visiting http://paperpleatsandribbonroses.blogspot.com/.

The challenge was taking a gray scale drawing of a pattern and adding color!  It's easy when someone tells us what colors to use.  So, I went through some scrap paper, and came up with convention card swap possible #1.

I used the following to create the card above.  All items are Close to my Heart (CTMH) unless otherwise specified.

White Daisy Card stock (CS) for the base card
Amythist texture CS for the background, distressed with Gypsy
Topiary matte for the green side of a sheet from the "Miracle" paper pack
Smokey Plum matte for the White Daisy CS that holds the sentiment
The strip across the bottom is Blush, distressed with blush and stamped on with one of the Boutique Boarders (Retired - D1332)
The flower is made up of Pink satin ribbon, Yellow and green grosgrain ribbon, not CTMH

Possible Card Sawp card #2 below is not only a Mojo Monday design, but it is also a Heart 2 Heart (H2H) challenge.  The H2H challenge was to use Barn Read, Bamboo and any Blue.  My blue is Indian Corn Blue, one of CTMH's 60 awesome colors.

The base card is Barn Red
The pattern paper is from the "Bliss" paper pack
Everything blue is Indiana Corn Blue
The stamp set used here is the "Unity" (C1422) set

I now have to decide which of these two cards I want to make 10 of for our swap at convention.  It's going to be a tough decision to make!

My Dad!

I missed posting last weekend for one of the saddest reasons a daughter could ever have to face, the loss of her Father. So, I pulled out of the archives a layout that I made in 2009 to honor My Dad!  This layout was extremely fun to put together.  The pictures show Dad as a boy, a teenager and a man.

George Edward Sarratt
9/19/1940 - 6/8/2011
I used The Close to My Heart Game On paper pack, and Bamboo card stock.  I used black and tan hemp the stitch the corners, and the "My Hero" tag is raised with pop-up tape.  I will miss him every day!

A friend told me that the birthday and the death date is not what we should remember about a person, it is the dash that separates the date that we should dwell upon.  Because that dash represents the life our loved ones lived. And that dash is where we obtained the memories we have of our loved one.

2012 Calendar

January was assembled with card stock, no Background and Texture paper.  The images were heat embossed to make them stand out. I used the following stamp sets; Captured Moments, Snow Flurries and Ice Crystals.  The photos are of my little man on the one snow day we had in January 2011.  The kids were given the day off school because it snow so infrequently here in the High Desert!

February was assembled with the Magnifique Level 2 Paper pack. Magnifique has a lovely combination of Chocolate, Lagoon Blue, Pacifica Blue and Sky Blue. The stamp sets used in this calendar page were Circle of Love and Amore.

I used the Miracle paper pack to assemble the March calendar page, along with the Take Luck stamp set.  I still need to figure out which photos to place on this page.  I may go back to Kindergarten and add the photos we took of my son making his leprechaun trap.

April! Well, let's say I got lucky with this one.  Easter will be April 8th in 2012.  It is smarter to look up the dates before you create the calendar page.  I used the Sophia paper pack for April.  It has nice bright colors such as Blush, Goldrush, Hollyhock and Pear. This color combo really pops!  I used Bohemian Alphabet for the title "april",  A Hop and the Sophia Workshop stamp set. In the center of the large flower I embelished with an opaques pearl.

Wings! The paper pack for the month of May was Wings.  Thinking of Mom, this elegant paper seemed to be the right choice.  I used the Dreams Come True, Find Your Style and Butterfly Wings for this page. The colors are Black, Juniper, Sweet Leaf and Vineyard Berry. A beautiful combination of color!  The black dots are our button brads from the new Mini-Medley Black Accent Collection.

For the month of June I used the Lucky paper pack.  It has a very maculine flavor to it.  How better to honor the man in your life or your father.  I have the perfect photo for this page of my husband and my son.  Now to find it in the digital archives so I can print and paste to complete the page. I used the stamp set Enjoy Life.  I heat embossed the sentiment in the upper left-hand corner, and the bicycle in the lower right hand corner.

July was easy to create with the Fanfare paper pack.  It has so much flare on its own with Cranberry, Pacifica, Sky and Sunny Yellow.  The distressing was done with Pacifica.  BOOM! was the stamp set of choice for this calendar page.  There is a little cross stitching floss added to the top photo frame.  It's a little hard to see in the picture, but looks great on the page.

August needed to be a quick assembly because July was such a busy page and at this point we were doing two pages per gathering so that we could get the calendar completed in 9 months.  I used the Mayberry paper pack The words above the flower came from the Blessed stamp set.  The flower is made up of one inch circles, and the leaves were done free hand. The colors in Mayberry {Chocolate, Honey, Olive and Smoothie} felt like summer to me and that is why I chose them for August.

September is not usually the month of Romance and Bliss, however, that is what I used for this calendar page.  The Bliss paper pack has a very antique look and feel to it.  The color combo of Bamboo, Chocolate, Grey Flannel and Vanilla Cream allows for an addition of just about any other color to be added.  Here I added my favorite color, Purple in the flavor of Amethyst. The embleishment in the center of the flower is one of our Filigree Charms. The stamp set used come with the Bliss Workshop On The Go.  Love, Love, Love this stamp set! The lattice boarder was accomplished by using one of EK Successes punches.

October was a fun page to create.  I love Halloween!  The purple and black combination is so attractive.  With the Hooligans paper pack, there is some Lagoon, Pear and Sunset tossed in with the Gypsy {Purple} and Black. I just loved the Hooligans Level 2 embelishments too!  The two hooligans on the right are from the level 2 assortment. They are felt and have eyes that move The hooligan on the left is a stamped image from the Party Animals stamp set.

November, the time of falling leaves and beautiful colors.  The Olivia paper pack was my choice for this page.  It has Barn Red, Pear, Smoothie and Sunset as its primary color scheme. They look great together.  I used the stamp sets The Present and A Little Thanks for this page.  Can forget to and the many "Thanks" we have to this page!

Who doesn't love Christmas. The filling of giving and caring that seems to fill the air this time of year.  We took a trip to Arizona to ride the Polar Express Train in 2009.  I would do it again!  My son really enjoyed this little trip. The paper pack used was Mistletoe.  The Stamps used were Share the Magic, Homestead Alphabet and I believe {hidden behind the picture}. The Santa is paper pieced and there are various sized gems in the sparkles of the "Sharing the Magic" stamped in the circle.

And this calendar was the first calendar I've had the pleasure to create with my club.  Would I do it again? Yes, I think I would.
